Mission

The purpose of Lambda Theta Alpha shall be to provide a sisterhood based on Unity, Love, and Respect. To develop strong Leaders who will then provide and practice political, social and cultural activities. To promote Unity through charitable and educational programs.

Chapter History

On March 4, 1997...

A group of ladies joined together to form a group known as E.L.I.T.E (Elegant, Loyal, Intellectual, Talented, and Educated). E.L.I.T.E soon became the Interested Ladies of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated. These young ladies had a common goal: to bring an organization catered towards the needs of Latina students to the University of South Florida. Although Latin by tradition, that alone does not define Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. We aim to empower the Universal Woman - one that represents all women, regardless of race, creed, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, or religion.

The road traveled by the E.L.I.T.E ladies was not without its challenges. Nevertheless, they endured and the Beta Gamma Chapter of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. was established on April 5, 1998. We are proud to be the first Latin sorority in the nation and are progressing the way Latina women are viewed by society and by themselves. Our goal is to produce strong and educated women: the leaders of today and of tomorrow. We have proven to achieve this by working together, promoting leadership, and always maintaining a high academic standard amongst our 160 sisters. We strongly believe in the three fundamental principles of Unity, Love and Respect.

Each Sister within our Chapter is unique. We are all of different backgrounds and ethnicities, but those differences become advantages when working together. Our goal is to learn from one another, and by doing so, we can achieve our highest potential.

Traditions

Saluting is a tradition unique to Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Saluting is a means by which members of an organization can praise a particular member within their organization or to honor the organization's past and current accomplishments. Saluting is poetry in motion and used to symbolize unity and respect.

Strolling is a tradition practiced by many organizations to this day. The practice of strolling is a very organized event, as members in a line know every step of the choreographed stroll. Strolling exhibits unity and pride.

She sees beyond the superficiality of her Greek letters. She works for the advancement of the community. She supports you in your endeavors, struggles and challenges. She appreciates you for the things she understands and those that she doesn’t. She serves as a symbol of progress and growth.

She is a Lambda Lady
